What is a Film Festival? PDF Print E-mail

A film festival is really a selection of films that we scoured the earth to find that you might not normally have a chance to see. We bring them together for a ten-day celebration and often the filmmakers come to join us. Not only do you get to see some of the best films of the year, you get to hear what the filmmaker has to say. Lots of people buy Film Passes to see films everyday during the festival, or they pick up the discount 5-Film or 10-Film ticket packages.

There are lots of unique special events that round out the Victoria Film Festival celebrations. You can listen to great local musicians at the Empire Theatres Lounge, the Festival hub. Drink some vino and talk about film at Sips 'n' Cinema. Or take part in an adventure called ConVerge during which short films are screened in the most unusual places from rooftops to alleys to local businesses and lofts.

One of the fun things about film festivals is that you end up meeting all kinds of interesting people while sitting in the theatre or waiting in line. You can be sure that everyone at the Festival likes movies, and it's fun to find out what other folks have seen and what they recommend. It's the celebratory atmosphere that makes the film festival such a community treasure.
