Congratulations to Christina Robillard for winning the Junior competition with her video WannaBe and Emma-Lynn Whitman for winning the Senior competition with Technology is a Dead Bird.

Both films screen at the Victoria Film Festival alongside features.

WannaBe will screen with Finding Farley, a documentary following a family setting out to trace the footsteps of one of Canada's most famous writers, Farley Mowat.

WannaBe and Finding Farley screen together on Wednesday, February 3, 7pm at the Odeon Theatre. Buy Tickets.

Technology is a Dead Bird will screen with Who Killed Miracle, a true west coast story about a killer whale that caught the heart of not only Victoria, but the entire world.

Easy peasy! FilmCAN has evolved into an exciting film competition that invites budding young filmmakers from local middle and high schools to make a short film on a subject of their choice.

There are two categories, one for middle schools and one for high schools. The winner of each category will win a great prize and the winning films in each category will be screened at Empire Theatres Capitol 6 alongside a Victoria Film Festival feature film!

Our aim is to educate and expose students to filmmaking and encourage, motivated students to create a great film. To assist this endeavor, students will have access to a professional filmmaker as a resource to offer suggestions, feedback or even facilitate in finding props or locations.

Prizes include the following:

Grade 9 – 12: iMac complete with Final Cut Express courtesy of SOHO Computers.

Grade 8 and under: Sony HD Handycam® Camcorder, Full HD courtesy of Sony Style.

In addition, both films will be screened at the Victoria Film Festival

How do I enter?

1. Go to the FilmCAN site.

2. Read and understand the rules

3. Make your film.

4. Upload your film to the FilmCAN site.

5. Tell everyone you know to check out your film and vote.

What if I need help?

1. Simply email mentor@victoriafilmfestival.com. Questions can be about anything film related such as – equipment, editing, or advice on storytelling.

2. Helpful tutorials will be posted on the FilmCAN site.

Jan 5, 2010 - Top 5 films in each category go to jury

Jan 7, 2010 - Winners announced at Pre-Festival Bash
